Home to the oldest whisky region and at one time the largest by distillery numbers, the region is in fact tiny about the size of a small to town with a population of around 7.000, imagine the smell of the town back in the 1800’s with 34 distilleries producing malt whiskies that ranged from light fruity styles to more robust peaty malts.

You can still get all the styles produced in Campbeltown today but they are produced by just 3 distilleries, Springbank the oldest family owned and run distillery in Scotland, Glengyle the newest old distillery in Scotland, it reopened after 75 years back in 2004 making it the first distillery of the new millennium and Glen Scotia the towns second oldest distillery.
