A Beginner’s Guide to Whisky Tasting

Whisky tasting events can be quite a daunting prospect; with so many varieties, flavours, malts and blends, it can make you feel like the outsider in a room full of whisky connoisseurs. Yet, there’s no better way to experience this smoky, flavoursome spirit, than at an event designed to give you a thorough taste of everything there is to offer in the world of whisky…because there’s actually quite a lot!

Try before you buy

We all know that the good stuff can often be on the pricier side, so it can be quite the risk purchasing a bottle not knowing whether you’re actually going to like the taste. With a whisky tasting event, you get to refine your palate and discover what you actually like.

Learn about the process

One of the best parts of attending a whisky tasting, is that you get to learn more about the history of whisky and the distilleries in which they are produced. You’ll also gain a better understanding of the various types of whisky and how different regions can impact the taste. This is the perfect opportunity to ask any questions and expand your knowledge, including how to serve up each drink.

You might get a rare one

This is your chance to try something different; something that might not be readily available on the market. As the only company to hold such a large collection of rare single malts, we know exactly what makes a particular whisky so exceptional. Trust us, having the opportunity to taste something rare will instantly make you the envy of your whisky-loving friends.

What to expect:

If you’re an absolute beginner, we recommend booking on our Whisky Tasting Experience. You’ll not only get to sample six whiskies from across the regions of Scotland, but we’ll also give you an insight into whisky history and the different types of cask maturation. This session lasts 1 hour and our whisky experts will be on hand to answer any of your questions.

For a more in-depth session, we recommend our Trip Around Scotland Evening Tasting. Similar to the above, but you’ll be situated in our intimate Tasting Room and we’ll talk you through wood styles, the effect of ageing and the regions chosen for the tasting. You’ll also get delicious canapés to match your drink.

Head over and book one of our whisky tasting experiences now! Going with a friend? Surprise them with a gift voucher that can be used to purchase a whisky of their choice after the session.
